Prepositions of Place and Movement

Preposições de Lugar e MovimentoPrepositionsA1–A2

Prepositions are small words that show relationships of place, movement, time and many other ideas. They rarely translate word for word: in Portuguese we say “depende de“, but in English it’s depends on. That’s why the secret is to learn prepositions together with the words they go with.Preposições são palavras pequenas que mostram relação de lugar, movimento, tempo e muitas outras ideias. Raramente se traduzem palavra por palavra: em português dizemos “depende de“, em inglês depends on. Por isso, o segredo é aprender as preposições junto com as palavras que elas acompanham.

In, on and at

The three most common prepositions have a post of their own: see In, On and At here on the blog.As três preposições mais usadas têm um post só delas: veja In, On and At aqui no blog.

A1 Position: where is it?

Prepositions of place answer the question Where is it? They usually come after the verb be: The keys are next to the phone. As preposições de lugar respondem à pergunta Where is it? (Onde está?).
