At, In, On: Time and Place

At, In e On: Tempo e LugarPrepositionsA1

In Portuguese, in, on and at almost always become “em” (no, na, nos, nas). In English, each one has its own logic. Think of them as three sizes: at is a point, on is a surface (or a day), and in is a space that surrounds you (or a long period).Em português, in, on e at viram quase sempre “em” (no, na, nos, nas).

A1 The big picture: point, surface, space

The same logic works for time and for place. A clock time is a point, so it takes at. A day is like a surface, so it takes on. A month or a city is a big space, so it takes in.A mesma lógica vale para tempo e para lugar.
