The Imperative

O ImperativoModals, Imperative and Phrasal VerbsA1

We use the imperative to give instructions, orders, advice and invitations: Open your books. Turn left. Don’t worry. Come in! It is one of the easiest structures in English, because the verb never changes.

A1 Affirmative imperative

The affirmative imperative is just the base form of the verb, with no subject. We do not say “you”: the person is clear from the situation.O imperativo afirmativo é só a forma base do verbo, sem sujeito. Não dizemos “you”: a pessoa fica clara pela situação.

base verb+complement

The form is the same for one person or many people. In Portuguese we change the verb (abra, abram, abre), but in English it is always open.
