All perfect tenses share one idea: they look back from a point in time to something that happened before it. At C1 level, the challenge is not the form but the choice: simple or continuous, present perfect or past simple, and the perfect forms hidden inside infinitives, gerunds and modals.
C1 The perfect system at a glance

Why Brazilians find this hard
Portuguese often uses the present or the simple past where English needs a perfect tense: “Moro aqui há dez anos” is I have lived here for ten years, never “I live here for ten years”. And “Já comi” is usually I have already eaten.O português muitas vezes usa o presente ou o pretérito perfeito onde o inglês exige um tempo perfeito: “Moro aqui há dez anos” é I have lived here for ten years, nunca “I live here for ten years”.
