A2 Body parts: my hand, not the hand
When you talk about your own body, or about the body of the person who is doing the action, English uses a possessive adjective (my, your, his, her, its, our, their). Portuguese does not need it, because it is obvious whose hands you washed. English wants you to say it anyway.Quando você fala do seu próprio corpo, ou do corpo da pessoa que faz a ação, o inglês usa um adjetivo possessivo (my, your, his, her, its, our, their). O português não precisa disso, porque é óbvio de quem são as mãos que você lavou. O inglês quer que você diga mesmo assim.
| Português | English | Not like this |
|---|---|---|
| Lavei as mãos. | I washed my hands. | ✗ I washed the hands. |
