For each one, you see the full name and a short, simple explanation in English and in Portuguese. TOEFL has a new score scale
Since 21/01/2026, TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language, internet-based test) gives scores from 1 to 6, going up in half points (4, 4.5, 5…), and each score matches a CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level. For two years, your score report also shows what your score would be on the old 0 to 120 scale, so you may see both numbers on university websites.Desde 21/01/2026, o TOEFL iBT dá notas de 1 a 6, subindo de meio em meio ponto (4; 4,5; 5…), e cada nota corresponde a um nível do QECR (Quadro Europeu Comum de Referência para Línguas). This is only an estimate
Each university, and each credential evaluation service such as WES (World Education Services) or ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators), does its own math, and their tables are not all the same. Many US universities also look at your original school record and compare it with how your school gives grades. Your official school record (transcript) usually needs a translation into English.Cada universidade, e cada serviço que avalia históricos escolares, como a WES (World Education Services) ou a ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators), faz a própria conta, e as tabelas não são todas iguais. Test-optional, test-required, test-blind
Many US universities are test-optional: you decide if you send your SAT or ACT score. But more and more universities are test-required again, which means you must send a score. A few are test-blind: they never look at scores, even if you send them. ED is a promise
You can use ED (Early Decision) for one university only. You, a parent and your counselor sign an agreement: if you get in and the financial aid is enough, you go. Use ED only for the university you want most, and only after you check the price with the NPC (Net Price Calculator).Você só pode usar o ED (Early Decision) para uma universidade. Need-blind or need-aware?
A need-blind university does not look at how much your family can pay when it decides if you get in. A need-aware university may look at it. For international students, most US universities are need-aware. Only a few are need-blind and also give all the aid your family shows it needs. The Graduate Route is getting shorter
The Graduate Route lets you stay and work in the UK after you finish your course. Today it lasts 2 years (3 years after a PhD). If you apply on or after 01/01/2027, it will last 18 months after a bachelor’s or a master’s degree; after a PhD, it is still 3 years.O Graduate Route deixa você ficar e trabalhar no Reino Unido depois de terminar o curso. The SDS (Student Direct Stream), a faster way to get a study permit, closed on 08/11/2024. Since 2026, master’s and PhD students at public DLIs (Designated Learning Institutions) do not need a PAL (Provincial Attestation Letter) anymore. Same letters, different meanings
CAS means Creativity, Activity, Service in the IB (International Baccalaureate), but Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies in a UK visa. PS means personal statement, not the “P.S.” at the end of a letter. COE in Japan is a Certificate of Eligibility, and CoE in Australia is a Confirmation of Enrolment. Apostille and sworn translation
Many countries ask for your school documents with an apostille (a certificate that makes a document valid in other countries) and a sworn translation (an official translation done by a registered translator). Does your diploma give direct entry?
A high school diploma from outside Europe does not always let you go straight into a German university. Use the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) admission database to see if you can start directly, if you first need to study for some time at a university, or if you need the Studienkolleg. Students from outside the EU (European Union) also usually need money in a Sperrkonto (blocked account) for the visa: a bank account that shows you can pay your costs and lets you take out only a fixed amount each month.Nem sempre um diploma de ensino médio de fora da Europa deixa você entrar direto em uma universidade alemã. Parcoursup or DAP?
Parcoursup is the national website for applying to the first year of university courses. Students from French schools and EU students use it. Most students from outside the EU who live abroad apply for the first year of a licence through the DAP (Demande d’admission préalable) instead. Some courses have their own rules, so check each one on the Campus France website.O Parcoursup é o site nacional para se candidatar ao primeiro ano dos cursos de graduação. Students from outside the EU who live abroad usually do a pre-enrolment (a first registration) on the Universitaly website after they are accepted. Brazilian students usually apply to Portuguese universities as international students, through the Estatuto do Estudante Internacional (international student status). This route has its own places, fees and dates.
